That said, the other day a youngster friend/music fan asked me what my favorite Christmas record of all time was was, and my immediate response was "The Little Saint Nick" by The Beach Boys.
Which I dearly love, as I'm sure so do many of you guys as well.
But then it dawned on me -- actually no, that's not my fave. In reality, it's this one, which of course has a far more appropriately Dickensian outlook.
I should add that somehow I had missed that video until yesterday. No fooling. Never saw it, and I owned the 45 back in the day (which was 1977, BTW. Oy gevalt.)
It also occurred to me that I've never posted about the song here before. How weird is that?
Oh well. In any event -- Merry Grimble, everybody! And may all of you get through the day without encountering seasonal "music" by either Mariah Carey or George Michael.

Yes, Steve, I agree with you about lack of enthusiasm for Xmas: I think 2024 has been a horrible year for many people - economically, politically, medically -and they just feel really worn out and sort of numb right now ( not only because Trump got back in) and just want to REST.
Re Xmas songs - I agree re the Beach Boys "Little Saint Nick", I love that record too. But I think the ChrIstmas song I've enjoyed the most over the years is Slade's "Merry Xmas Everybody". Not a big hit in the U.S. or Canada but a smash in the band's native U.K., and while I've nothing against sweetness or solemnity in an Xmas tune, the Slade song just outright ROCKS. It's difficult to be depressed when it comes blasting out of the speakers IMHO, especially during the chorus.
The Slade song is indeed wonderful.

As to today's video:
The Kinks at their best with the classic American touring line up. This was The Kinks as we knew them when they first toured the USA in the 1970's. "Father Christmas" was one of their best tracks ever and this jews' favorite Christmas song ever!

Just saw Richard Thompson at The Tabernacle a few weeks ago and he did a fabulously spirited performance of this song as part of an encore!
Get outta town. I'd kill to hear that!!!!
