Today's Cartoon Chuckle(s)

Have I mentioned I love the unfortunately late Sam Gross (1933 - 2023)?

I mean, this classic (unlike the above) hasn't got even a tenuous connection to anything involving the subject of this here blog, but still...

In any event, tomorrow -- a post about something music-related that somebody really should write a book about.

Hmm. That somebody could possibly be me. 😎

I liked Sam Gross' stuff too.
I have a book of his cartoons (c. 1973) with the Frog Legs sketch on the cover.

Steve - 'Bout time for you to write a new book. It's been 40 years (!!) since GENDER CHAMELEONS :-)

The Hell cartoon reminds me of the old joke, which I may have first read on this blog:
Q - What's the definition of a "gentleman" ?
A - Someone who knows how to play the bag pipes but doesn't.

Take a chance -
Google Roz Chast.
She has a sharp eye for cultural
absurdity. The New Yorker cartoons, where I am pretty sure these came from also features her comic observations.

I think the frog's legs one was from the National Lampoon back in their 1970s glory days. Also featuring Gahan Wilson's 'Nuts' and Bobby London's 'Dirty Duck', both of which elicit smiles to this day when I recall them.

In 1980 he published a book titled "An Elephant is Soft and Mushy" - The title comes from a parody of the six blind men and the elephant in which the men are feeling the elephants parts and declaring it to be like a tree or like a snake, etc. One blind man is a short distance away and has his hands on a pile of dung and he proclaims that an elephant is soft and mushy.

You may have encountered John Godfrey Saxe's poem on this topic:
https://allpoetry.com/The-Blind-Man-And-The-Elephant

I offer this additional verse:

The seventh blind man, staff in hand, upon his bare feet goes.
"I clearly sense", he firmly said, "and think that all should know
An elephant is soft and mushy in between the toes!"
