simelsblogging: Patti Smith

Portrait of the Critic as a Young Patti Smith fan. Note "Back to Mono" button.

BTW -- I bet Patti was thrilled to get into the Hall of Fame on the same night as the Ronnie Spector. How many times do you think she sang Ronnettes songs in the back of a school bus when she was a kid?

(NYM notes: simels is much better looking than this now. He's aged very well.)

I remember that photo. Phil Spector says hi.

Did you catch Patty's induction into the R&R Hall of Fame? She gave a very moving speech, much better than the pompous Rage Against The Machine guy who gave the encomium.

I still think Rage Against The Machine is one of the worst band names ever.

That said, I hope you do have a chance to hear Patty's remarks. I saw the video on the AOL site, along with a pretty ramshackle but heartfelt Patty cover of "Gimme Shelter." And speaking of the Stones, Keith Richard's tribute to the Ronettes confirms my suspicion that Keef is the REAL intellectual in that band....

I mean Patti, of course. I was distracted by her telling me that her husband called her "Tricia."

My apologies.
