My meth stash is pretty much exhausted, so posting by moi will probably be light this weekend while I try to find Rev. Ted's dealer.
In the meantime, here's a fun game for you:
Best Fictional Rock Star or Band. By which I mean film or TV.
My Top Ten candidates:
1. The Wonders (the garage band in "That Thing You Do").
2. Jet Screamer (Judy Jetson's favorite rock star, singer of "Eep Op Ork.")
3. Conrad Byrdie (from "Bye Bye Byrdie," of couse. Hey, Marshall Crenshaw covered one of his songs).
4. The Rutles
5. A tie: Spinal Tap and The Monkees (I'm stretching here, but both groups were essentially fake bands that actually got their name on great records and even toured live).
6. The Barbusters (Joan Jett, Michael J. Fox, and Michael McKean's prole-rock band in "Light of Day").
7. The Carrie Nations (the girl group in "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls")
.
8. Chris Gaines (Garth Brooks' alter-ego alt/rocker).
9. The Bedbugs (Lowell George's British Invasion band on "F-Troop").
10. Bryan Adams (I refuse to believe he's a real person).
Jump in, won't you?
For steve:
But for me, this is hands-down the best (two) fake act(s) ever!

I've always had a soft spot for the bands in the movies Starstruck (1982) and Streets of Fire (1984)
Howzabout everyone in "Grace of My Heart"? I esp. like the faux Beach Boys, with Matt Dillon as Brian Wilson (music by Dinosaur, Jr., IIRC).
Oh, and let's not forget The Mosquitos! They turned up on "Gilligan's Island" and were portrayed by the Standells, I think.
Then there's the Beau Brummelstones...
A few favorites:
- The Sacred Cows, the KAOS-front band from "Get Smart!"
- The intergalactic hippies from an episode of the original "Star Trek", especially when Spock breaks out the modified bicycle wheels and jams with them
- Arch Hall, Jr. from "Wild Guitar". (Kidding, kidding...)
A few comments:
Arch Hall Jr.'s finest work was undoubtedly in Eegah, with Richard Kiel.
The faux-Beach Boys were actually Jeff and Steve McDonald of Redd Kross. Best line: listening to the "Good Vibrations" parallel, "How do you play it live?"
And excuse me, but you're missing the girl bands (aside from the Carrie Nations, of course): Mystery from 1988's Satisfaction, and of course, Josie and the Pussycats.
Boys, I swear.
The faux-Beach Boys were actually Jeff and Steve McDonald of Redd Kross.
Sorry, meant the music was composed by Dinosaur Jr (though actually, it was just J. Mascis)...
BTW, turns out it wasn't the Standells that appeared on Gilligan's Island as "The Mosquitos" - it was the Wellingtons, the group that sang the show's theme song!
And in the same episode, the gals formed their own band - the Honey Bees!
Arch Hall Jr.'s finest work was undoubtedly in Eegah, with Richard Kiel.
Sorry, Mary, have to disagree with you there.
It was ol' Arch's most famous role, but I thought he was best (musically and otherwise) in Wild Guitar, Arch Sr.'s wonderful tale of an innocent lost in the grip of the corrupt & evil music biz.
And Arch himself thought his best acting was in The Sadist.
"Mumblin Jim" from Psych-Out, lip-synching to the Strawberry Alarm Clock.
nymary, May I suggest:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains"
Tsk, tsk..
Know what's missing from this list? The 1yo, the 2yo, the 7yo and the Teen.
In honor of the Stones, Some Girls:
The (Fabulous) Stains
The Honeybees (Ginger, Mary Ann, Lovey Howell)
The Sleaze Sisters (of the film Time Square)
Candy Slice
And a few other favorites:
Lenny & The Squigtones
Fat Albert & The Junkyard Gang
Scum Of The Earth
Arthur Hodgeson & The Kneecaps
How about The Commitments, and the Blues Brothers? And for the old-timers, the Chipmunks, the Banana Splits, and the Partridge Family, although I wouldn't consider them "Best".
And nice to see you here, Steve!
Looooove Meeeeee!
Ah, but FL, both The Commitments and The Blues Brothers were cover bands--though that seems a weird distinction to make here. Both also did tour, however.
Not the wonders - it is the O - nee - ders.
