An Early Clue to the New Direction: Glam Guitar Hero Edition

From his 1974 solo album of the same name, please enjoy David Bowie's guitar foil and (apparently) all-around nice guy Mick Ronson and his post-Ventures instrumental take on Richard Rodgers' immortal "Slaughter on 10th Avenue."

As always, a coveted PowerPop No-Prize will be awarded the first reader who gleans the clip's relevance to the theme of tomorrow's Weekend Listomania.

Great r'n'r instrumentals?

Or have you done that one already?

(BTW, I always thought one of rocks' great odd couples was when Ronson played lead guitar for Dylan in '75....)

I always thought that odd, too, but he was actually great on that tour. And he produced that excellent McGuinn album as a result....

Uh no, BTW....not instrumentals.

Street Names?

New York City references?

Bands with boys who are prettier than most girls? :-)

David Rasmussen said...

That was excellent... band members who outshine the big name?

Sadly, dead or live musicians who play songs about locations? Let us not forget how terrific he was with Ian Hunter! I still miss his screeching wah-wah feedback.

I actually think this is awful, if truth be told. And the album, if memory serves, is pretty terrible also.

Let's just say he did better work...

Songs with addresses?

ROTP(lumber)

I got caught up in the space age bachelor pad-ness of this (and am not a Bowie fan). Music that sounds like the title sequence for a movie?

Songs that could have used a click track (definitely sounds like it slows down for a couple of bars around 1:00)?

Songs about death/killing?

Rock 'n' Roll remakes of songs from musical theater?

Recordings with piano playing that wouldn't sound out of place on a Ferrante and Teicher album?

The Bootleg Series from a few years ago captures some pretty astounding moments. Damn, that was a great band.
