Their best song for sure; still kills me after all these years.
BTW Lindsay was at the Brian Wilson show I saw at the Highline late last year; Brian introduced him from the stage, but I didn't actually lay eyes on him.
We definitely need more bands that step in rhythm to the music while performing. I always liked that about the Raiders.
HOM is one of those songs I've always thought should be longer -- it's too excellent to be that short. It's like "Talk of the Town" by the Pretenders -- they could have written 10 more verses and I'd love the song 10x more because of it.
I never found them to be that *deep* of a band, though. Some *great* songs (other than HOM): Just Like Me, Kicks, Hungry and... that's about it.
(There are a whole lot of too-similar sounding songs in the catalog, though: Steppin' Out, Louise, Ups and Downs that never got me much beyond those hit singles -- although I have a soft spot for "The Legend of Paul Revere"...)
And I think Don Fardon's version of "Indian Reservation" is so much better than the Raiders' version, so there.
Happy 70th to Mark Lindsay!
The were the "house" band on "Where The Action Is" which I loved as a kid.

I loved it, too. Wasn't it on in the afternoon? I remember watching it and "Dark Shadows" ...
"The Great Airplane Strike." And "Good Thing."
Guitars as good as anything else from any rock band at the time, including the San Francisco groups. Great great records.
"The Great Airplane Strike" melody reminded me too much of the verses in "Along Came Jones". I could never get past that.
"Good Thing", OK, I overlooked that one.
Yes, "Where The Action Is" aired in the afternoon.
Here's Captain Beefheart on "Where The Action Is".

Mark Lindsay must be a huge Brian Wilson fan. I saw him in New Jersey during Brian's Gershwin tour.
"Diddy Wah Diddy" was a hit single in L.A. Makes me proud to be a native Angeleno.
Bothers me and lots of other people -- including Handsome Dick Manitoba, Mighty Manfred, Ko Molina, and Little Steven van Zandt to name some folks who are vocal about it -- that these guys aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet. Abba? Really? This is what Rock and roll is, damnit! Three chords, riffs and screwing around...the costumes grind today, but that was what you did back then...everybody had a "look:" The Raiders had fun with their look.
