Jingle Jangle Morning Melodies

From 1990, please enjoy veteran alt-rockers The Connells and their haunting exhortation to "Get a Gun."

Those guys hailed from Raleigh, N.C. and if they're still down there, my sympathies; in any case, with the usual personnel changes over the years, they're still at it, and good for 'em. I should add that I was lucky enough to see them in a small club when they were touring that album (it was their foourth) and they killed, albeit in a sort of magisterial way. The album itself, which is still available, can be acquired over at Amazon HERE and is highly recommended.

Meanwhile, a coveted PowerPop No-Prize© will be awarded to the first reader who gleans the track's relevance to the theme of tomorrows Weekend Essay Question.

I saw them a few times in Athens in the late 80s/early 90s, and they were solid-to-great every time. (Also, I think they're from NC, not SC)

You are correct, sir, if I may channel Ed McMahon. North, not South.

Are you a boy or are you a girl?

The track is quite good, really enjoyed it. I will have to check them out.

The Connells are one of the very good bands that came along shortly after R.E.M. and put out consistently good albums that mostly got insufficient marketing push. Their 2021 album Steadman's Wake is true to form, even with 20 years between in it and the previous release.

As for tomorrow's theme: songs with gun in the title?

Bands with a member's name in the band name, and that member is not the most important member. To wit:

- The Spencer Davis Group
- The J Geils Band
- Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes
