Okay, Vinyl Rules, Okay!!!!

The short version: I just learned that some friends of ours (no kidding -- two lovely people BG and I are privileged to know socially) have invented, and are marketing...the Tune Table™!!!

Words fail me, except...what a brilliant idea! I mean, like that's the coolest thing in the history of things. And I say that as somebody who (as attentive readers are aware) didn't have a turntable, or start listening to vinyl seriously again, until late last year.

And I want one of those, and don't you? Duh. 😎

Seriously -- if you do (and who wouldn't?) hie yourselves to the Tune-Tables website at the link up top toot sweet to find all the info you need. And tell 'em PowerPop sent you!!!

Oh hell, here's the official Tune Tables™ link again!

A nice idea, but preferably using unplayable records. Why wreck a good one?

different strokes for different folks - i have always been bothered when people were careless about the physical integrity of their lps [and mine!] so having a vinyl record as a table surface does not appeal to me - as i say, different strokes for different folks

I think I’ll create a #2 pencil chair. Invite your unwanted guests to sit on it.

absolutely agree this is disrespectful to the format. as a young man i wouldn't let anyone even touch my precious records and the idea of using one as a table is offensive! surprised that sal at burning wood didn't weigh in on this. rs

Okay, better late than never, but I'll weigh in.

When I buy someone's collection, they usually don't want me to cherry pick. So I have to make an offer for it all, and "all" usually means records with seam splits, scuffs, names written on covers, water damage, etc. These are records that won't even sell for a buck. How do I know? Because this is what I've been doing for 50 years. I've got $20 records for sale on Discogs for $5, and they sit and sit, unpurchased. Totally playable records that have imperfect covers. So, I put boxes in front of my house and people take them. Finding a VG LP to use for a cool table is hardly a crime.
