GIRLS! GIRLS! GIRLS! Week -- Postscript: Like Sleater-Kinney With Better Legs and a Bass Player!

And just because we like to have something recorded in the current century once in a while, from 2011, please enjoy Sub Pop Records sirens the Dum Dum Girls and the irresistible ear (and eye, come to think of it) candy that is "Bedroom Eyes."

To paraphrase Katherine Hepburn on star quality, it`s either some kind of electricity or some kind of energy, but whatever it is, these dames have got it.

Nice way to start the morning. Thanks, Steve. Catchy tune, but for some reason, I kept getting distracted. I'm sure that had nothing to do with the collective assets of the rhythm section.

And is it just me, or did the kaleidoscopic portions remind you of some sort of Georgia O'Keefe Rohrschach test, or was that just the damn rhythm section getting to me again?

Steve, apropos of nothing, I noticed you're a commenter on Charlie Pierce's blog. Are you addicted to that thing like I am? His genius blows me away several times a day. If you haven't read his book, you're doing yourself a disservice.

In keeping with Girls Week, word verification = bessi.

All this video did was make me miss Lush all that much more...

(While not an all girl band, they were one I tended to lump in as a "girl band" whenever I thought about it...)

Hard to ignore the resemblance to The Pretenders on this!

Steve, have you seen Vivian Girls? Their song "Take It As It Comes" is pretty charming too.

great combo of 80's retro - robert palmer glams girls (but musicians not models) and a never was but should have been pretenders song. the lead singers even has a little bit of chrissie in the vocals.

also apropos of nothing, has anyone listening to the album version of brass in pocket at 45? sounds like dolly parton - how great would that have been back then?

I'm gonna try that, "Brass in Pocket" at 45!

I had a Rachel Sweet 45 that when played at 33 sounded just like Nick Lowe.

you can't just act like you have a good hook. you're supposed to actually have one. very cute and extremely attractive and of course love the Sears/Silvertone guitar but undone by lack of a real chorus. I get it: she needs his bedroom eyes. or does she need to be bedroomized?

Whoo boy, I am such a crank today.

Anonymous,
you are not just a crank.
The girls and the guitars are the whole thing. The tune is nowhere near the Pretenders, or Sleater Kinney

yeah, Josie and the Pussycats with a vintage guitar advance from SubPop.

Isaac, I was thinking the Vivian Girls too. Kinda like they cleaned up the VG and hid their fuzz box.

He said "fuzz box"

They remind me a bit of a (mostly) unknown Norwegian female pop genius named Vibeke Saugestad.

Take a listen, and tell me that in a world with any sort of musical justice, this shouldn't have been a huge hit:
