Great Lost Singles of the Sixties (An Occasional Series)

So the other day, I was reading a piece by Charlie Pierce about Governor Scott Walker -- or, as Pierce refers to him, "the goggle-eyed homunculus hired by Koch Industries to manage their midwest subsidiary formerly known as the state of Wisconsin" -- when for some reason this song by the Nashville Teens, which I hadn't thought about for years, popped into my head.

Jeebus, that's adorable. Incidentally, it was written by the great John D. Loudermilk, who also provided the Teens with their international smash hit "Tobacco Road." As for the Teens themselves, their real claim to fame is backing up Jerry Lee Lewis on his Live at the Star Club, Hamburg album, which is arguably the greatest live rock record ever made.

Have a great weekend, everybody!!!

well, it's actually "Google Eye" (maybe if one types "google" these days all hell breaks loose.....).

I've got a great John D. Loudermilk LP and nearly every tune on it was covered and made a hit by someone.

Why does this remind me of Red Hot Chili Peppers?

Wow. I hated every second of the 68 I endured.

There is a reason The Nashville Teens were a minor footnote in the history of the British Invasion.

Loudermilk was very much a major talent as a songwriter! Just not this song.

Have a great weekend gang!

I'll refer you to one of the comments on the youtube link:
"This is not true stereo. Sounds like early 70s electronic stereo and it's horrible." Amen.

Hmmmmm. Is music better when we bring uninspiring politics into the mix? Don't think the Koch influence bashing helps any more than the Soros promoted shenanigans. Sad. Siding with the late great L Bangs, where not looking for Western Union.

Yeah, Ive lived in both Wisconsin and New Jersey. And other places. Lots of folk in the NE never left their doorstep. But, love to tell us in yhe fly over states how to live. For the record, I dislike most all politicians. Vote Libertarian!

And please stick to the reviews. They are great and promote some great music.

Sorry. Been a hard day....

They're a long way from Hamburg! Has anyone from the Teens ever written about that show or tour? Nothing I've ever heard comes close to it.

Charles Pierce is an excellent writer, I've been reading him for a while.
