I'm Not Feeling Too Good Myself

It has come to our attention that today's kids just love the Disturbed, whose new album, Indestructible, is now number one on the Billboard charts. Here's the single.

Is it just me or is that bit on the intro where the singer laughs satanically in rhythm with the drum fills just the funniest thing ever? The question, of course, is whether it's supposed to be.

I have nothing snarky to add except that as always Devo said it best: "Today's noise is tomorrow's hootenanny."

Manufactured angst on parade.

The singer must be intense: he holds his arms against his head.

This must be a cool video: the cuts are so fast.

Trey must be feeling grouchy this morning: his post is so snarky.

The breathing noise at the beginning and end was cool enough. But, I was hoping that the laugh would be reprised. Ha, haa, ha, hua.

Thrash Metalriffic.

Devo also self described their unique musical stylings as, "the sound of things falling apart".

Last weekend I was at my wife's cousin's daughter's wedding - she's a fairly typical 26-year-old, from what I've been able to gather. So I'm sitting at the older family table with aunts, uncles, and what-not, when the DJ starts playing some reggaeton number. One of the uncles turns to me and says, "That's not music!" I reminded him of what his parents/grandparents told him about Chuck Berry.

On one level, I hate coming down on the kids for what they like; but when I see something like this, all I can see is ridiculously derivative music, imagery, and attitude. I wish they could at least get behind something a little fresh, like, say, Los Campesinos.
