The famous version of that -- originally on vinyl -- was recorded at my Alma Mater, CW Post, and I was in attendance. To my knowledge Bruce hadn't played it publically before then, and you could have knocked me over with a feather when he pulled it out.Just delightful.
If you can track it down, "Dancing in the snow" by the Leopards is a fantastic, Kinks-y xmas song. It's from their Kansas City Slickers LP from 1977 (i think).
Ed. note: "publicly".
Saw Bruce do this December 16, 1978 at Winterland- a show I'll never forget!
BTW, the complete Winterland show from the night before I saw Bruce is available at Wolfgang's Vault:http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/bruce-springsteen/concerts/winterland-december-15-1978.htmlIt was originally broadcast on the great FM rocker, KSAN. But I think the show I saw was just a bit better, as this setlist will show:http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/bruce-springsteen/1978/winterland-arena-san-francisco-ca-23d7a827.html
Bruce has taken to doing "Blue Christmas" this year, see this link with four "Promise" songs plus this one.http://www.vevo.com/watch/bruce-springsteen-the-e-street-band/songs-from-the-promise-live/USSM21002203
