Surf's Up, Y'All!

I just KNEW I liked this guy.

Rodney Crowell rehearses "Sail on Sailor" with the Beach Boys in 1996. Mike Love is nowhere in sight, incidentally.

That shot of Brian at the end of the song really says it all, doesn't it.

PS: You don't need to watch the second half of the clip, which is a low-fi audience tape of the official performance.

The Beach Boys' Stars and Stripes was a hit and miss affair, with some horrific arrangements, but I don't think there is much doubt that there is affinity between BW's music and country.

The best covers I think I've ever heard of BB material were Vince Gill's at the Brian Wilson tribute at Radio City:

and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uU-4AkDimt8 (although, admittedly, there isn't much country about this performance)

And gotta love Tammy's "In My Room" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGntEUmk3dE
