The Genius of Bobby Troup 1918 -- 1999

That ultimate hipster SOB wrote this, which as you know, The Beach Boys covered (brilliantly).

And he also wrote this -- which couldn't be any more stylistically different...

...and which was brilliantly rocked out by The Rolling Stones and every subsequent garage band ever since.

Plus he married Julie London, the hottest 50s chanteuse of them all...

...and then went on to become a TV star acting opposite his spouse...

...on a hit 70s doctor show.

Pretty fly for a white guy, 'natch.

Or as we say out here on the Left Coast…massively bitchin’, dude!

Loved Emergency! as a barely-pre-teen and had a major crush on Nurse Dixie too.

Despite the presence of twitching sot Tom Ewell, the Julie London interlude in Tashlin's film reads as if lifted from a Powell/Pressburger fantasy. She was the Bomb and Bobby Troup was a fortunate man.
