Your Friday Moment of Words Fail Me

From 2002, and the Conan O'Brien show, please enjoy the astoundingly brilliant Mike Viola -- doing business with his band The Candy Butchers -- and a live version of his transplendently gorgeous "You Belong to Me Now."

I've been a fan of this guy since forever, by which I mean when he sang the title song for Tom Hanks' That Thing You Do, but this song is a total work of genius. And the fact that the sound of this thing is a live power trio blows my tiny mind.

Have a great weekend, everybody!!!

Absolutely amazing!! When he takes the solo, the rhythm guitar sound doesn't drop out! I never understand how that can be done; but clearly, it can.
After the solo, it sounds to me like there is a sustained note being held by an organ or something. Could that have been coming from somebody in the house band playing offstage??
Either way, a total tour-de-force.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who heard that organ tone. Terrific song and performance!

Does anyone else see Roger McGuinn in Mike Viola close up of him singing. Not that physically looks like roger but his head and body move like roger. It is clear to me just wonder if anyone sees it.

I love Mike Viola. My favorite non-Beatle vocalist. "Lurch" is a desert island disc for me. I read on FB today that he is working on new MV recordings (as opposed to producing/writing for others).

Love Mike Viola. And I agree about "Lurch" and "Electro De Perfecto". He sent out a note recently that he is working on a new set of songs. I think he stays busy with soundtracks and sidemen gigs. Which is great for him, but I would definitely run out and buy any power pop he puts out. He is someone who defines the genre today for me.
