An Early Clue to the New Direction

From 1980, here's magnificently coiffed former teen idol Rex Smith and his thrash metal classic "Woman."

A coveted PowerPop No-Prize will be awarded to the reader who first divines the clip's relevance to the theme of tomorrow's Listomania (which, incidentally, will be going up a tad later than usual, as I'm off to Gomorrah on the Hudson for a pre-holiday assignation).

Wow. That was brutal. Thankfully, until just this moment, I had never heard or seen this opus. Swell, now it's probably stuck in my skull.

I'll get you yet Steve Simels!! (shakes fist at sky).

So, I got nuthin' on a guess.

I'll have to say...pop artists who made a clumsy transition to bad stagings of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas starring Kevin Kline and Linda Ronstadt.

That should have been "recorded" at the end there. (I was so moved I couldn't type.)

I don't know how many guesses we're allowed, but I have two:

Best Pop/Rock Hairstyles

Most Odious Pop Teen Idols

I do like Dave's guess, though.

Songs that you know suck from just the title.

Dave, you were brutal.

I laughed, but I felt a little guilty doing it.

Outstanding.
