And simels thought he was kidding?

After forty years spent thinking about what might have been, ejected former Beatle Pete Best has said he’s finally ready to make peace with Paul. “We’re not getting any younger,” he said. “We know what we’ve done and we’re not going to think any worse of each other if we had a chat now. God bless us all: it was all 40-odd years ago.”

It took me a few minutes to realize this, but why would Mr. Best want to make peace with Ringo? What was Paul's role in kicking Best out of the band? I thought it was Epstein's idea.

It was Epstein's idea, but I think the decision was made more because Lennon wanted it than McCartney. In his bitterest days, Best used to blame McCartney, however, saying that he couldn't handle not being the best-looking one in the band.
