Over at the Premiere Magazine website my old friend and colleague Glen Kenny -- doing business on his characteristically brilliant blog -- has had a real aha! moment over a certain highly anticipated new album.
If Joe Meek had produced the first Led Zeppelin LP...that's the sound I'm hearing as I listen to the new White Stripes collection "Icky Thump."
Wow. That's the most perceptive short album review in memory, surpassed only by J.D. Considine's legendary blurb on the (mercifully) first and last album by bogus supergroup GTR:
"SHT."
Postcript: For a little background on visionary and deeply weird Telstar auteur Joe Meek look no further than here.

I used to love Considine's Short Takes, and I remember that GTR review, too. Another great one from that time was Cher's Love Hurts album, which was reviewed as simply, "Not this much."
I still like the idea of Phil Spector producing the Dead, myself...
My husband swears he read a review of Yes' first album that simply said, "No."
I would also note the Glorious Noise review of 100 Million Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong. Three words: "Sure they could."
