Wednesday Rolling Stones Karaoke

Okay, words really fail me over this one.

From 1967, it's the instrumental backing track for the Stones' just out of prison psychedelic masterpiece "We Love You."

We don't care if you only love "we"
We don't care if you only love "we"
We love you.
We love you, and we hope
that you will love "we" too

We love "they".
We love "they", and
we want you to love "they" too

Ah

We don't care if you hound "we"
And love is all around "we"
Love can't get our minds off
We love you, we love you

You will never win "we"
Your uniforms don't fit "we"
We forget the place we're in
'Cause we love you
We love you. Of course, we do

I love you. I love you
And I hope that you won't prove wrong
too
We love you. We do.
We love you. We
do.

Ah...
Apart from being a very cool song, pay special attention to the stuff on the right channel after the drums come in. The late great Brian Jones on mellotron, folks, and as the late great Lester Bangs famously said of his work here, only Brian could make the mellotron ooze menace and danger.

Wow.

Why couldn't Their Satanic Magesties Request be this good?

Amazing that "Dandelion" was the b-side.

"Dandelion" was the side that got all the play, at the time. I think I had not heard this chart before today...

IIRC, these backing tracks (this, Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, and there may be others) only came to light because they were licensed for karaoke in Japan years ago.

Didn't realize it was so easy to pry this stuff out of the vaults, all it takes is money....

WGG:

Dandelion was the A-side in the states. The reasoning was that the Stones drug bust, which "We Love You" was a reaction to, wasn't as much of a news story over here.

Incidentally, I hadn't known this, but Lennon and McCartney are singing the backing vocals on the actual song..

It's almost forgotten now, but that Greatest Hits Vol. 2 (the one with the stop-sign-shaped cover) was a helluva record; the only thing it's missing IS We Love You:

1. Paint It, Black
2. Ruby Tuesday
3. She's A Rainbow
4. Jumpin' Jack Flash
5. Mother's Little Helper
6. Let's Spend The Night Together
7. Honky Tonk Women
8. Dandelion
9. 2000 Light Years From Home
10. Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing In The Shadow?
11. Street Fighting Man
