Ah Yes, It's a More Warm and Fuzzily Nostalgic Than Usual Early Clue to the New Direction

From 1965 -- and more specifically, from a recent MOJO sampler of representative Brit singles from that pivotal year-- please enjoy the best Liverpool band not managed by Brian Epstein, i.e. The Searchers, and their charming minor hit in the UK (here, not so much, although it got airplay in NYC as I recall) "Popcorn Double Feature."

As always, a coveted PowerPop No-Prize will be awarded to the first reader who gleans the track's relevance to the theme of tomorrow's Weekend Listomania.

Hmm. The copyright on that 45 definitely says 1967. If that's right, MOJO seriously goofed, which is not like them...

Hmm, gee, could it be Liverpool bands not managed by Brian Epstein? :-)

I'll always love the Searchers, no matter what. But man, the Summer of Love was pretty chilly for them. Tony Hatch should have connected them with Cat Stevens or Carole King. Very sad.

No idea what the theme is. Great bands undone by the march of fashion? Bad judgement in covers?

After listening to this posting, I found a live BBC version of this tune on y-tube. Kinda interesting, not sure its any better.

The Acid is just not kicking in?

Songs about the movies?

Are we still having Video Listomanias? If so, I'm going to say Favorite Post-Chaplin Double Feature Lineups.

(Obvious, right?)

No, it's a music listomania.

No one's got it yet...

Songs that are much better than their titles would suggest?

Songs from soundtracks?

Songs with foods in the title?

Songs that refer to going to movies?

Songs about snacks?

No, no, and no.

A clue?

It has something to do with the year, the song and with the band, just not as literally as that might sound, And MOJO getting the year wrong isn't really relevant....
