Every Trick in the Book....

And speaking as we were yesterday of whether or not Fountains of Wayne have entered their eating-their-own-tail phase, please enjoy the 2005 Robbie Fulks' parody/tribute "Fountains of Wayne Hotline."

I've posted it before, but it seems relevant to the discussion. Not to mention so smart and funny and dead-on that it's kind of scary.

Seriously -- I'm convinced that Adam and Chris would love to have written the damn thing themselves.

"Oh, THAT Gerald." Funniest line in a hilarious piece.

My favorite bit as well. The air of slightly tired contempt with which he says it just slays me...

Yes, I agree, very clever. I've had this since the first time you posted it. Want to hear two other gems by Robbie? Try to track down Let's Kill Saturday Night and Can't Win For Losing You.

Oh, and while we're at it, my fave cuts from the new FOW are: A Dip In The Ocean, Richie And Ruben, Acela and Workingman's Hands. Not their best effort certainly, but like everyone else they've aged. Sometimes you can't go home again and create what you once did at a certain time from your past.

Robbie's a genius in his own right and puts on a great live show. The man also comes close to rivaling Richard Thompson on guitar, too.

Hey, now that Robbie and FoW are labelmates...

I'm heading to the beach tonight - 10 hours in all - and Sky Full of Holes will be going with me. My first reaction mirrors Sal's, nothing leaps out at me, but I assume it will grow on me.

The subject matter for several of the songs certainly fits with the journey.

Loved the Fulks the first time you posted it, even more so this time.

"department of bridges and infrastructure." A group has to be fantastic to inspire this quality of parody.
